What is the Kuari Pass?
The Kuari Pass, also known as "Doorway", is a mountain pass at an altitude of 4264 m (12,516 ft) located in Uttarakhand state, India. It is situated in Nanda Devi Sanctuary Biosphere Reserve of Chamoli district of Garhwal region. It has 33 km long route of journey. It is known as "Curzon trial" because Lord Curzon was discovered the trail in 1905.The area is full of rare flora and fauna where can see the bear and leopard footprint during the trek. Peaks of Trishul, Kedarnath, Kamet, Neelkanth, Gauri Parbat, Abl Gamin, Hathi Parbat, Badrinath, Dunagiri, Rishikot, Changabang and Nanda Devi range and Tibetian Border can see from the top.The route covers "Panch Prayag" and Alaknanda and Bhagirati rivers streams.
Geographical importance of Kuari pass
The great mountain barrier of Kedarkantha and Kuari is situated between two states of India; these are Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The lofty peaks and snowcapped Himalayan ranges of Nanda Devi National Park make it a popular destination for trekkers, alpinists and pilgrims as well. It is one of those few places where you can get an unmatched view of Kedar-Kailash Parvat from close quarters. It also gives you a chance to witness some rare flora and fauna in their natural habitat. And if that’s not enough, there are many legends associated with it too! In fact, its name ‘Kuari’ comes from one such legend.
