What is the temperature like?

Temperature is one of the most important aspects that should be known before heading out on a trek. In the case of Kashmir Great Lakes trek, due to the PirPanjal mountain range, Kashmir lies in the rain shadow region. This is the reason Kashmir receives mild rainfall from July to August. July is the month when we start this trek which is a peak summer season but the mountains are pleasant. The plains of Srinagar can be warm between 25 to 30° C in the day time. The sun can be harsh during the day. During night, temperature reduced to around 5 to 8° C. Make sure to carry poncho or raincoat as there is also a high chance of rain. Temperature in July to mid-August: This time is the warmest months of the Kashmir Valley. In day time, wearing a sun cap is a skin saver from the harsh sun. The temperature during the day is around 20° C and 5° C in nights. Nights are cool and calm and these temperatures noticed in higher camps too. There can be mild rain in the trail in the late afternoon and evenings as well, carry poncho and nothing can stop us from trekking. Temperature and weather in the end of August to October: The temperature during this time is drops till 3-4°C in the day time and goes beyond -3° C to -5° C in the nights. So, be prepared with winter gears to protect from the cold.There would be strong chilly winds during the evenings due to its positioning as a plateau.

Is food included in the trek?

Yes, four times meal are included in the trek which includes breakfast, lunch, evening tea and dinner. The food during the entire trek is super healthy, nutritious, delicious and different varieties of food serves each day.

How to charge mobile phones/cameras?

Make sure to carry 20,000mah power banks and keep your phone on flight mode to save more battery.

How would the weather be like?

The weather is pleasant with cool summer skies in the day and pleasant nights. So, between July till October is known to be the best time to visit this trek. The temperature can range from 10-15 degrees in the day to 0-5 degrees at night.

Where will the meals be served while trekking?

There is a larger tent that has enough space for everyone to sit in that is known as dining tent where the meals are served while trekking. Sometimes, we also provide camping stools and a dining table.

Where will we go to the loo?

There will be dry toilet tents provided for all as a part of our services. Toilet tent are a little far from the campsite so as to maintain hygiene. While on the trail, everybody has to go behind a rock.

What kind of food will be provided on the trek?

Proper Vegetarian meals would be provided on the trek, four times a day. Four times means breakfast, lunch, evening tea and snacks, and dinner. There are varieties of food that will be offered each day. There is also a probability of getting eggs and non-vegetarian meals, if all the trekkers agree.

 What is the best time to do the KGL Trek (month-wise)?

The KGL trek is probably one of the best Himalayan Monsoon trek in India.

  1. Early July – Get to see flowers beginning to bloom, lush greenery, and patches of snow all over at higher altitudes.
  2. Mid-July – Mid-August –This is the warmest period in Kashmir and snow would have melted. Get to experience dramatic landscapes with breath-taking colors and mild showers during this time of the year.
  3. Mid-August to October – Get to experience a certain drop in the temperature. By which, there flowers start to droop away, skies get clear and blue with intermittent showers. Also, there is possibility of snowfall from post mid-September.
  4. You will see a considerable drop in the temperature. Also due to which flowers start to wither away, skies are mostly clear and blue with intermittent showers. You will notice snowfall post-mid-September.Better prepared for the showers and do carry Poncho or raincoat.

Itinerary

Day 01: Drive from Srinagar to Sonamarg  (Drive : 76 km, Duration: 4 hrs, Altitude: 9,100 ft)

 Our representative will meet you at Srinagar airport, Srinagar from where you will drive to Sonamarg, which is around a 2-hour trip. It takes around 2 hours to drive from Srinagar to Sonamarg; however you may take a brief journey to some of Srinagar's most famous attractions, such as Dal Lake and Mughal Gardens. Arrive at Sonamarg in the evening and spend the night in tents just outside of Sonamarg, our trek's beginning point, to take in the most of Sonamarg’s splendour.

Day 02: Trek from Sonamarg to Nichnai (Trek : 9 km, Duration: 6 hrs, Altitude: 11,500 ft)

The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek officially begins today, only a few kilometres outside of Sonamarg. A lovely roadside Dhaba marks the start of the walking trail, where one may get packed meals for the journey. The trail follows the Sindh River through a grove of Maple and Pine trees to the Sindh River. After a few hours of walking, turn around to witness the magnificent Sonamarg valley vista.

Day 03: Trek from Nichnai to Vishansar Lake (Trek : 12 km, Duration: 6 hrs, Altitude: 12,000 ft)

The trek from Nichnai to Vishansar Lake is long yet spectacular, passing through lush green meadows before ascending to Nichnai Pass and then descending to Vishansar Lake. The sights afforded by the Kashmir Great Lakes trip are the greatest part of it. We walk via Nichnai Pass, which is wide open and offers spectacular vistas of beautiful snow-capped peaks.

Day 04: Trek from Vishansar Lake to Gadsar (Trek : 10 km, Duration: 5 hrs, Altitude: 12,500 ft)

After breakfast, we will begin our journey towards Gadsar Pass, passing through Kishansar Lake. It will take around 2 to 3 hours to reach the summit, depending on your speed. Once there, be prepared to take in the vistas that you will never forget, with both Vishansar Lake and Kishansar Lake in full view. Gadsar is one of Kashmir's great lakes trek's most stunning and pure lakes. The Gadsar Lake is bordered on one side by snow-capped cliffs and on the other by vast, lush green meadows.

Day 05: Trek from Gadsar to Satsar (Trek : 12 km, Duration: 6 hrs, Altitude: 12,000 ft)

Begin your trip with some deep breathing and a delicious breakfast at the camp. The easiest way to go to Satsar is to cross the river and enjoy putting your toes in the very cold water. Satsar is essentially a collection of seven lakes, with water available in different lakes depending on the season of your walk, and all of them are connected. We will camp near the first lake at the lovely campground.

Day 06: Trek from Satsar to Gangbal Twin Lakes (Trek : 9 km, Duration: 6 hrs, Altitude: 11,500 ft)

Today will be a difficult day, so be prepared for a lengthy, laborious hike across the rocky terrain, which is littered with stones. We'll start descending towards Gangbal, our target for today, after crossing the final Lake of Satsar.

Day 07: Trek from Gangbal to Naranaag and drive to Srinagar (Trek : 11 km, Duration: 6 hrs, Altitude: 7,450 ft)

Today is the last and final day of your trek. Begin trekking following the creek to the tree line, then through pine forest and grassy area to our final destination of Naranaag, where our SUVs’ will be waiting.

  • Backpack offloading charges – If you wish to offload your backpack, there will be an additional charge. The backpack cannot weigh more than 9 Suitcases/strollers/duffel bags will not be allowed. Please note that charges will vary for last minute offloading in case you decide to offload your bag after reaching the base camp.

Cancellation Policy

  • Cancellation on or within 15 days (0 days to 14 days) of departure – 100% charge as a cancellation fees
  • Cancellation on or before 15 days of departure – 50% charge as a cancellation fees
  • In case of unforeseen weather conditions, natural disasters or government restrictions, certain activities/whole trek may be cancelled and in such cases the operator will try his best to provide an alternate feasible activity. However, no refund will be provided for the same.
  • No refund will be processed in case of trek cancelled by trekker due to personal/medical emergency
  • If package includes any product offering (e.g. Jacket or Bag), that will not be returned and price of the product will not be refunded. For example, if booking amount collected Rs. 2000 and the package includes jacket offer worth Rs.1500 then in case of cancellation, Jacket will not be returned and only Rs.500 (2000-1500) will be refunded subject to fulfill of other cancellation policy conditions.

Refund Policy

  • Any refund applicable will be processed within 14 business days.

Confirmation Policy

  • Upon booking, the trekker will receive a confirmation voucher via email, within 48 hours (on working days).
  • In the exceptional cases of slots not being available, viable alternatives will be provided to the customer, in regards to the customer’s preference. In such cases, a new voucher would be sent via email, consisting of the new trek details.
  • Alternatively, the trekker may choose to cancel their booking before confirmation and a full refund will be processed.
